Only this time not only does it not turn it on and off, but the remote is unable to control any of the functions of the X-box. 2. While it can control it once Ive turned it on, it would be nice for me not to have to walk across the room to power it on and off. The idea of an integrated remote is great. Also, if I am listening to a cd and want to switch to DVD player, the remote does not power off my cd player. The Harmony 520 is a great idea.
Is unable to power on my Sony CD player. Same problem with my X-box 360. But unfortunately falls short. The cd player keeps playing and the remote simply changes the input on my receiver. Hopefully Logitech will design a model that works. Here are some problems.1.
That is the point of the remote after all.
The Remote controls everything perfectly. I have Dish Network, Sony Blueray, and Panasonic DVD recorder/VCR combo. I also have a 550 that I like even better. Much better than the remote that came with my VIZIO 37". I can program the buttons to do what I need them to do.
There were too few buttons (lots of space taken up by the LCD screen, which I hated), the button layout was crowded and totally lacking in tactile cues, the case was (as other have mentioned) flimsy, and it would sometimes light up for no reason at all (no one was touching it). I was very impressed that I was able to "teach" the remote some odd commands that most remotes don't offer. But the left directional button didn't work, and the device I was trying to control didn't like the remote's version of the "toggle power" command and occasionally didn't shut down properly.
Phew. The left directional button was really a deal-breaker, and I didn't feel that it boded well for the other buttons over the long term. So, the remote's going back to the store where I bought it, and I've discovered that it's possible to just buy a replacement for my original worn-out remote for a lot less than the cost of this remote.
I bought this remote to replace a remote for a DVD-RAM recorder with worn-out buttons. The setup itself was a little kludgy, but it wasn't hard to get everything the way I wanted (to the extent possible - like I said, not enough buttons for my tastes and I hated having to use the LCD for anything because I want a remote that I don't have to look at).
No harm done. It's not easy to find a fully-functional replacement for such an oddball item (not a regular DVD player, not a DVR either), so when I saw this remote at a store for half price I thought I'd give it a chance to solve my problem.I'm giving it two stars because even if all of the buttons had worked properly, it still would have been awkward to use.
I also hated that the setup required me to create an account with a login.Well, whatever.
The only negative is that the remote seems a bit flimsy but not a problem. No problems what so ever, I have a LG Receiver, Panasonic TV, PS3 and Xbox. So far I have had no real problems with the programming of this remote. I will be careful with it. Very quick until you personalize buttons, it takes a little practice but once I got used to things it went extremely quick. I bought this remote to go along with my new home theater.
I got this for $30 less than the 550. It worked with everything. I was debating between this and the 550 remote and can say that I am very happy that I bought the 520. This remote worked with all of my components seamlessly. I highly recommend the Harmony 520 to everyone. They are nearly identical, the 550 has 6 more buttons I think and I have no need for the extra buttons.
The software, I feel, is really nice.
It only took 10-15 minutes to program on my Mac. I should also mention that some of my components are less than 4 months old, and the folks at Logitech have done a good job at keeping their code database up to date. She also didn't want to take the time to learn how to operate them all to view a movie, watch TV, etc.
With two button pushes, she can access the proper devices without having to think about it much. Why 4 stars. If you don't need the color screen or big touch screen, this unit will do you nicely.
My wife didn't like having 5 remotes on the coffee table. That includes a projector, Blu-ray, HD tuner, Yamaha Receiver, VCR and more. the type on the buttons is a little too small for my middle-aged eyes, but most folks won't consider that a problem.
I saw this remote on sale for $39 and bought it. It controls all the major functions of our home theatre system and most of the minor ones very simply.
